New Year’s Eve we decided to do something new and different with the kids and met the Vander Roest family at the Midnight at 7 Celebration being held at the Symphony of Lights in Columbia. The Symphony of Lights is one of those drive though and look at the lights show, but on NYE they were doing a celebration for kids and families. They had a bonfire, face painting, a great DJ, free noise makers, hats, beads, etc.. and you could walk though the lights and then at 7pm they do an early New Year Celebration with a firework show.

We bundled up and headed out for our first celebration of the night and what fun it ended up being! The first thing the kids wanted to do was get their faces painted.

I don’t remember the company that was doing it, but they were fantastic!

Ethan chose a tiger face.

Jax would never choose something at tame as a tiger:) After vetoing his first choice, he went with a skeleton!

With our two painted goons we headed off to check out the DJ. Jax was all about dancing and was really getting into.
The DJ was great and for each song was teaching the kids dance moves. Jax picked up on them pretty quick.
Ethan was a little bit more hesitant and didn’t join in until Micheal Jackson’s Thriller came on. Ethan LOVES Michael Jackson.
By then the Vander Roest munchkins were finished getting their faces painted so we checked out the very warm bon fire and walked though the lights.
Aren’t they cute?

Around 7pm we headed back towards the main area , danced and sang a bit more, did a fun count down and then watched an incredible fireworks show! I mean the fireworks were super impressive!
Following the fun celebration with the kids we took them all home, put them to bed and then Michelle and Nate joined us for a small but super fun Adults Only Celebration.
It was a great night shared with the best of friends!
Here’s to 2013! I hope this year brings you much joy, love, happiness & health!
